When designing a security ecosystem for a high-profile estate, a common mistake is treating surveillance as an afterthought. Most contractors wait until the building is finished, leading to ugly, exposed wires or poorly positioned cameras that leave massive blind spots.
On this multi-million dollar estate project in Atherton, California, we were brought in during the active construction and remodeling phase. This timing allowed us to do what we do best: build an enterprise-grade, institutional-security architecture right into the bones of the property.
The Challenge: Perimeter Protection Without Architectural Ruin
The client’s main concern was absolute perimeter protection. The estate features large outdoor spaces, long fence lines, and complex modern architectural geometries. The security architecture had to meet three non-negotiable criteria:
- Zero Blind Spots: Clear coverage of the property line and structural vulnerabilities.
- Invisible Infrastructure: No visible conduits, junction boxes, or messy cabling that would disrupt the clean, modern lines of the estate.
- Data Sovereignty: 100% offline local video storage with zero cloud vulnerabilities.
Engineering the Deployment
As captured in the project file, we deployed our hardware directly into the soffits (under-eave spaces) of the property while the structural elements were still being finalized—note the protective film still shielding the architectural columns.

Here is how we executed the installation step-by-step:
1. Pre-Wire and Pathway Routing
Before the soffits were fully sealed, we fished shielded, solid-core Cat6 copper cabling through the internal framing. By running cables inside the structural cavities, we achieved a 100% concealed installation. There are no exposed wires for intruders to cut, and no ugly metal pipes running down the pristine white stucco walls.
2. Hardware Selection & Strategic Placement
We selected commercial-grade, high-definition Ubiquiti UniFi Protect IP cameras featuring advanced AI event detection and infrared night vision. As shown in 2200.webp, the camera is mounted precisely at the corner eave intersection. This elevation grants a sweeping 90-degree field of view along the perimeter fence line and side pathways, transforming a classic architectural vulnerability into a heavily monitored security zone.
3. Privacy-First Storage Architecture
The feed from this camera doesn’t stream to an open, hackable commercial cloud server. Instead, the Cat6 line terminates inside a secure, centralized AV rack in the estate’s server room. The footage is written directly to a local, encrypted Network Video Recorder (NVR) configured in a RAID 5 array for physical drive failure redundancy.
We then isolated the entire surveillance network on its own dedicated VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network). Even if an intruder physically tampers with an exterior camera, they have absolutely zero access to the home’s main automation network or private internet data.

By integrating our team during the construction phase, we saved the client thousands of dollars in future drywall repairs and wiring complications.
